Strand Road
Just a short cycle ride to the east of the city brings you to the breath-taking Ayeyarwady River. Stroll down Strand road and reward yourself with breakfast or dinner at one of the restaurants overlooking the water.

7 Mile Chaung Tha
Located on the way to Dee Dote, 7 Mile Chaung Tha is a rock and sand 'beach' on the Dokthawaddy River. Swim in the cool, clear waters or enjoy some of the water sports on offer such as banana boats and tubing.

Yankin Hill
Only a short drive or cycle out of town, Yankin Hill is an easy escape from the city fumes. Hike up or enjoy driving through the green fields.

Dee Dote
This series of waterfalls and cascading pools is a great place to beat the heat. Located about a 1 hour drive from Mandalay, Dee Dote has several bamboo huts where you can sit and relax between swims. Food and drink are available or bring a picnic.

Yadanarbon Gardens
A pretty park at the north end of the moat is also home to the city’s zoo.

Shan Galay Kyun Village
This riverside village is a pleasant place to observe traditional rural lifestyle. On foot or by bike, explore the quiet, tree-lined lanes and stop to see activities such as gem polishing, wood carving and farming.

River Bank of Kyauk Tha Beik Creek
Walk along Myo Pat Road to see life along the river bank of one of the Ayeyarwaddy’s tributaries. When the river is full, you can see the large bamboo rafts moored along the bank with the rafters carrying out their daily tasks, logs being offloaded and women rubbing piles of garlic with their feet to get the skin off.  When the river is dry, walk across to visit the villages of Sat Yeik, Thayat Dabin, Min Ye Hla Min Ye Htut and Pagan Tet.
