There are rules and regulations for transit trade through Myanmar. A person or a company who want to do transit trade must be registered as exporter/ importer. To carry out the transit trade, transporting goods across the territory of Myanmar to the neighboring country or countries shall apply for export/import license. All transit commodities except vehicle used for transportation shall pay the custom duty and charges. 5 percent of CIF value shall be paid as charges for crossing territory of Myanmar which is inclusive of custom duty. And 1 percent out of the 5 shall be paid in advance in foreign currency to obtain the export/ import license.

         Transit trade carries out before receiving export/import license is not permitted. Commodities under transit trade shall be made through the official loading/ unloading port and the officially prescribe border area. Transportation shall take the official routes without deviation. The registered exporter/ importer shall submit beforehand, the road, waterway and air routes through which the transportation will be made. Commodities of transit require permission from Myanmar and neighboring countries as well. The relevant commission for undertaking transit trade and expenses including custom duty shall be paid by the abroad client in foreign currency acceptable by the Myanmar Foreign Trade Bank.
