Mandalay is full of restaurants where you can feast like a king at a very reasonable price.  Here are our recommendations for places to get great food and good value.

1500 Kyat Restaurants
Head for 33rd street between 72nd and 73rd street and see loads of restaurants, such as Muse Shan Gyi, Sein Phu Wah, Shwe Gabar, Aye Chan Myay and Lasho Shan, which offer a great meal for 1,500 kyat.  For that price, you will get three different meat dishes, plus three different vegetable side dishes – and you still get a free soup and fish paste. If that doesn't fill you up, you can order an extra plate of rice for 100 kyat and an extra curry for 200 kyat.

One-set 800 Kyat
Ko Toe Gyi restaurant and Ma Swe restaurant in Zaygyo Thazin E Shed serve delicious curries and quality rice at only 800 kyat for one-set.  Different meat curries are available, except beef curry, which are served together with a side dish, soup and vegetables in one –set.  An extra plate of rice is 100 kyat and an extra curry is 600-700 kyat.  They also offer a delivery service to those who are manning busy shops.

73rd Street Cheap Eats
Between 73rd street and Bamaw Taik street there is a range of Shan and Myanmar restaurants, such as Taung Kyar Pan, Myat Mon, Tawin Shan, Thibaw and Principal restaurants, which all sell lunch and dinner priced around 1,000 to 1,500 kyat. On the street, there is also a cold drink shop, Thiri Myaing, which sells great fresh juices. These restaurants are very crowded during school time (September to November) so come early to get a seat.

Kyan Taing Aung (Zalongyi)
Open five years ago, this clean and tidy shop offers a one-set rice and curry for only 900 kyat.  They have a variety of dishes to choose from and are open from 7am to 10pm every day.
